There’s no place like home.
Everyone has the right to a decent home ……
But many of us are denied that right. Nationally, the average house costs more than ten times the average salary; vacancy rates are below 1 per cent, and space per person for private renters has dropped substantially in recent decades. Here in Brighton and Hove renting a one-bedroom flat costs an average of £1,347 pcm and two bedrooms £1,805 pcm. Last year 4,671 families were on the council waiting list for social housing. And we rank second among England’s local authorities for the number of rough sleepers.
· So what’s the situation local and nationally?
· What are the political parties proposing?
· What are the radical solutions?
Join our conversation with Kelvin Macdonald, expert on national housing issues and adviser to the House of Common Select Committee on housing and communities and Andy Winter, former, CEO of Brighton Housing Trust and expert on the local scene.
Our coffee mornings are open to all. We pride ourselves on providing great coffee and excellent biscuits with informed conversation between progressives. We aim to develop a broad agenda of concerns and proposals that all the progressive political parties can share.
Support our campaign
This campaign will take all of us – and everything we’ve got. If we invest our time, energy and money now, we can turn the progressive majority in the country into a progressive majority of politicians in Parliament at the next election. Will you help us?
